One of my favorite things to do, is to jump in the car, camera in hand, and just go. Preferably out to the countryside where the blacktop ends and the simple life begins.

I captured these beautiful red barns while on an adventure out in St.Clair County. I love how the farmer’s brightly painted and well cared for barns contrast with the fields of green.

Most of my photos originate from the car window. Now and again I stop and get out, but I feel weird doing so.

Do you like photography? You will find a lot of country scenery in my Flickr feed. What kind of photos do you like to take? Feel free to comment below.

Well, it’s that time of year again. The weather has cooled down, Summer has come and gone, and Fall is once again upon us. It’s been almost a year since
I’ve last blogged. Where does the time go?

So, I decided before I start again, it would be a good idea to upgrade
Wordpress, fix the broken links and apply a new theme for a change of scenary.
The current theme is just temporary while I work on something more personal. But
this will do for now.

Stay tuned.

It’s been quite a few years since I’ve had a professional picture taken of myself. Sure. I have plenty of “self portraits” scattered in my collection of family gatherings and such. But nothing that I would want to post to a website, or have printed on my business cards. So, I decided it was time for an update.

I chose the studio at my local Walmart to handle the task. The studio was a bit disorganized, but the photographer was really nice. She spent extra time creating various poses and going over different options with me. Overall, even though I fretted over what to wear and wether or not I really wanted to go through with it, I think they turned out pretty good.

I only ordered a disc, no prints, since I was mainly interested in images to be used online. The other images can be seen in my Flickr stream found here.

Ya. It’s been that kind of a day. Nothing too major. I stopped to let a car cut across the road, and was hit from behind. It was pretty low impact, and there was little visible damage to my car. The other person wasn’t so lucky, as the front of her car is messed up. Thankfully no one was hurt. I already have a claim set up, and an appointment to have the damage verified by the insurance company Monday morning. If that was all that it involved, I’d say no big deal. But reality set in while on the phone with the insurance adjuster, and that reality is called a high deductible. I guess I’ll have to wait and see if it makes sense to file a claim or not on Monday. Oh well. It is what it is, right?

For some time now, I’ve had a program called Delicious Library, but haven’t taken full advantage of it. Delicious Library is a Mac only program that catalogs all your media, and keeps it in a nice neat database. This is good for record keeping (Do we have this movie?) and supposedly for insurance purposes. Although it can keep track of things other than your DVD collection, such as books and tools, I really consider it a one trick pony. But what it does, it does well.

One of the strong features of the program is the ability to use a webcam in the form of a bar code scanner. And since the new laptop has just such a webcam built in, I decided to update my movie collection from scratch yesterday.

Scanning was pretty much a snap. On some older movies, I couldn’t get a clear shot of the bar code. Kinda felt like the checker at the supermarket tirelessly trying to get something to scan. But it beats entering everything by hand.

The 2nd best feature of the program is the ability to take all this new info, and publish it to your own webpage. Which I did. As snazzy as the exported layouts are, it really doesn’t float my boat. I’d like to have a built in search and a better way to sort. I can make code changes, but that makes future updates difficult at best. For now, it’s good enough.

You can see my library by going here. You will see most of my collection is Disney based, or similar. Anything VHS is probably on it’s way soon to a local library. The collection total is inaccurate, since it counts items each time they show up on a virtual shelf.

So maybe it’s not exactly delicious, but it’s certainly handy; And, the bar code scanner makes it easy to keep up to date.

Could even be a personal record. So I broke out, and went over to Meijer for a little bit. I needed to exchange some sweats and wanted some salad for tonight’s dinner. Was definitely nice to get out. Felt kinda funny driving and it took a few minutes to get comfy, but all was good. Also, using a buggy to get around the store? Not a great idea. That salad cost almost $27. Yikes. Kit Kat anyone?

Today has been a pretty good day. I slept in a little bit this morning and pretty much took it easy. After Saturday’s post of being disapointed with today’s cartoon line up, I realized I could log in to Netflix and stream directly to my new computer. Score one for me. So this morning I watched “Daffy Duck’s Quackbusters” to fulfill my sweet tooth for good old fashion cartoons.

My friend Bill stopped by for a bit this evening to sit and chat. Always good to see Bill. Especially when he comes bearing gifts. He and the Missus made a nice gift basket of get-well soon goodies that I’m sure will be put to good use:

Of course, I broke in for a sample before I remembered to snap a picture of the crafty handiwork.

A call to mom and dad was next, only to be cut short with the statement “We have a 6 foot geiser of water out in the front yard”. Why can’t these people hit oil instead

Tonight, I will wrap up with the last of the Star Wars Prequels, “Revenge of the Sith”; Hope it’s good, as I haven’t seen this one before.

As you can see, it takes a lot to be me – but somebody’s gotta do it!

Nuts. One thing I didn’t want to do? Wake up too early today. I woke up just before 6 AM, and forced myself to stay in bed until almost 7. Just couldn’t stay there any longer. As I was laying there, pretending to still be a sleep, I began to think of a post I read earlier over in OMSH-land: Saturday Cartoons.

Some of my earliest memories are me waking up early in the morning, sneaking down stairs, and turning on the TV to watch cartoons. Dad almost always worked Saturdays, and mom deserved to sleep in a little. Not me. I wanted to watch cartoons. I would remember having to keep the volume low on the old 19″ color TV, and sit on the floor right in front of it since it was right across from my parents bedroom door.

Cartoons in the late 70′s were great. (The 80′s too, but that could be another post) Not like the junk on TV today. There was the Justice League, with Superman, Batman and Robin, Aquaman and Wonder Woman in her invisible jet, all trying to keep the world safe from evil. Who wouldn’t be in to that? I don’t know exactly what would be next, but I know some of the other shows were, Scooby Doo, Capt. Caveman, the Flintstones and Hong Kong Phooey. Saturday morning as a kid was something to really look forward to back then.

So, this morning, as I pushed myself out of bed, (a little easier than yesterday) I had a brief thought to myself to see what could possibly be on this morning. To my disappointment, there were few cartoons available on the regular channels. Nothing I wanted to see. Kids today must really be missing out.

What about you? Did you have a favorite Saturday morning carton when you were a kid?
