On My Tivo

A Tivo let’s you record shows to a hard drive for later viewing pleasure. One of the features of a Tivo unit is a Season Pass Manager. With this feature, you select a show, and it will record all upcoming episodes based on your preferences. So, what might be in my Season Pass Manager? Let’s look (In Order):

    • Monk
    • Psych
    • In Plain Sight
    • NCIS
    • The Bill Engvall Show
    • Burn Notice
    • The Closer
    • Law & Order: Criminal Intent
    • Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
    • Knight Rider

Well, at least it’s not all business and technology shows :)

New Theme

I’ve had the Mandigo theme installed for a long time; I just never turned it on. Not sure if I like it or not. But it’s something different. For fun, it will cycle through all 7 color schemes with each reload. We’ll see how long this last.

Business Planning Class – First Week

Well, the second class I’m taking at night is in full swing. This evening is the end of the first week, and it has gone pretty well. It’s not so much that I’m learning new information that I’ve never heard before, but that I’m seeing things from a different perspective. I’ve had business classes in the past, and have written more than one plan of my own. This class seems to be a bit more analytical, not just focusing on the end result, but spending a good amount of time on the process of creating those results and understanding them from both a positive and negative view point. I’m not a heavy class participator and never have been. But I am enjoying the discussion, and soaking up as much as I can.

There is one snag though. The crazy text book for this class keeps eluding me. First, it wasn’t available until the afternoon of the first class, and is only available at south campus – which is not the campus the class is held on. I could have gone and picked it up yesterday, but I didn’t want to make a separate trip, especially before work. I did go today before class, but the bookstore closes at 4:30 on Wednesday; I was both surprised and ticked. Guess we can call that the Amazon effect.

Looks like I will have more than enough to do this weekend.

My First Class

Last week I wrote in this post that I would be taking some classes in small business at night. Well, I’ve had my first class in the series already. This weeks class involved 2 nights of lecture on the basics of starting up. I wasn’t really sure what to expect going in, but I can say that I did enjoy it. The instructor is both informative and entertaining, which is a plus. I did not pick up a whole lot of new material, but based on some of the information presented this week, have decided on what type of legal structure to set up under.

I went ahead and signed up for the next class in the series, which begins on Monday. There are 3 – 5 classes that I plan to take, but decided I would sign up for each of them individually as I go along, just in case I should change my mind. Monday we will begin writing a business plan, and this class will last for 6 sessions. I plan to gain the most from this one, especially when it comes to doing projections.

*Edit: I guess it would have helped if I added the title before publishing?

Brrrr!

Well, it’s that time of the year again. I caved in and lit the furnace Wednesday evening. And since I made it to October without using it at all, I think that’s pretty good.

It was just this past weekend that I finally took the air conditioner out of the window. It had been a few weeks since I had used it, and I was basically putting it off. The temperature has actually been above normal in Michigan for this time of year. But this afternoon when I went to get up, it was a bit of a struggle, as I thought it was just too cold. Funny how the seasons can change so quickly.

Yup. Fall is here. Might as well enjoy it while we can.
