Many people name their cars. From Betsy to Henrietta, people like to give their car a pet name. What’s mine? Lurch. You see, Lurch has a transmission issue, in that he doesn’t want to go right away when I tell him to. In reverse, it takes 2,100 RPMs to convince him to go, and 3,100 to go forward. I’ve actually gotten rather use to it, and often laugh as I Lurch on down the road.

Well, weekend before last, Lurch blew his thermostat, which caused a hose crack and subsequent leaking of important fluids. I thought I had fried his little 4 cylinder brain when smoke started coming out from under the hood. Thankfully, it was a simple enough fix for the guys over at JTs Gratiot Automotive, and cheap on the wallet too. I ended up missing 2 days of work though. It’s impossible to get anywhere around here without reliable transportation, and I can only do so much walking in the rain.

Speaking of work, layoffs hit this past week. I’m sad for those people who have had their lives turned upside down by someone else’s failure. Hopefully they will find new work soon, maybe even something better than they had.
