Say Cheese!
Finally. I’ve been in need of a new digital camera for a few months now. I’ve been bouncing back and forth between the Nikon Coolpix P80, with its fabulous 18x optical zoom and the Cannon G9 with its high quality sharp images and additional lens capabilities. Problem is, both of those cameras are not only expensive, but come with a learning curve I’m just not up to at this time. In reality, what I really want is a camera that fits in my jeans pocket, and can take decent snap shots.
So, while at Target yesterday, I was (as usual) checking out the cameras. After a few minutes of playing with the Nikon Coolpix L18, I told the guy to ring it up. I like it. I think it is a good choice for my needs. It’s slim enough to fit in my pocket, and has an 8 MP sensor. As is standard on these low end point and shoot cameras, the optical zoom is only a 3x.
This camera replaces my Cannon Powershot A300, which had a 3 MP sensor. It was my first digital, and has served me pretty well for being my first. The Nikon Coolpix L18 will use standard AA batteries, which I still consider a plus since I have a house full of rechargeables. So far, my only disappointment is moving to an SD card, as the Powershot used compact flash cards, of which I have plenty. But, I knew this at the time of purchase, and also picked up an 1 GB card while checking out.
I plan to put it to good use, maybe even this afternoon. And hopefully, future post will have some decent pictures to go along with them.
